What is a Duvet Comforter Cover? Duvets originated in Europe. and were made from down feathers of the eider duck. which is known for its usefulness as an insulator and is called eider down. So what exactly is a duvet? A duvet is essentially a bag filled with feathers. that you use as a blanket. So. you may be wondering. what exactly is the difference between a duvet and a comforter? Well. a comforter is to be used in conjunction with other bedding. The traditional use for a comforter is you make your bed with a bottom sheet. a top sheet. one or more blankets. and then the comforter on top. A duvet however is usually used all by itself. When using a duvet. the common practice is that you do not use sheets or blankets. you use only a duvet.
Buying the Right Duvet. Selecting a duvet is not always as easy as there are so many options present nowadays. A duvet`s chief aim is to maintain the body`s heat irrespective of the atmospheric temperature. The large range of duvet covers now available in the markets can make it difficult for you to decide on one. so certain facts must be kept in mind before you choose the right one.The perfect organic duvet should preserve warmth and defend a person from the external disparity in temperature to ensure him/her comfortable sleep.
Duvet inserts and covers present less of a storage problem than other types of bed covers. In general two inserts are adequate for any bed. One for the colder months and one for the warmer months. with an empty duvet cover (no insert) being used during the hottest months. So. for most of the year when one duvet insert is in use. you have one bulky (but not as bulky as many other coverings) duvet inserts to store. Add to this all but one of your duvet covers - three in the closet. along with one on the bed would give you four to alternate between. Each of the covers takes up as much space as two folded flat sheets. This compares favorably with the storage space required for a total of four changes with other types of bed covers. such as three bedspreads. quilts or decorative comforters.
Duvets are mostly filled with down. cotton. feathers or alternative fills that include synthetic fabrics. silk or wool. While duck down and goose down duvets are seen as rather luxurious. synthetic duvets have been catching up and nowadays can give duck down or goose down a run for their money. Also. if you or your children are prone to allergies. you should opt for duvets that are filled with hypodown or other such anti allergic filling.
